Bush, Saudi king
discuss Mideast
November 13, 2008
NEW YORK -- US President
George W. Bush and Saudi King Abdullah discussed issues including Middle East
peace efforts in talks Thursday on the sidelines of a UN interfaith conference,
the White House said.
"They talked about the importance of interfaith dialogue helping to foster
tolerance and peace. They discussed regional security issues as well as
the Israel-Palestine situation," said spokesman Gordon Johndroe.
"They all discussed the upcoming global financial summit. The president
looks forward to seeing King Abdullah in Washington this weekend" at global
economic crisis talks, said Johndroe.
The meeting came a day after White House spokeswoman Dana Perino said the
monarch, whose kingdom forbids public practice of religions other than Islam,
knew his country has "a long way to go" on religious tolerance.
