TRENTON — A high-ranking
Commerce Commission official will be sentenced today for using state employees
to run her private law practice.
Lesly Devereaux of Piscataway faces five to 10 years in prison.
The former Commerce chief of staff was found guilty of official misconduct for
misusing state employees on company time.
She also pleaded guilty to welfare fraud and tampering with public records.
Authorities say the 49-year-old created two fake recusal letters showing she did
not participate in the hiring of her mother and sister as consultants.
Her sister, Candace Harper of North Carolina, will also be sentenced today.
