Rutgers University President Richard L. McCormick is one of 77 Rutgers University employees making at least $200,000 a year, according to salary figures released today.

At Middlesex County College, no employees make that much, but 33 employees earn more than $100,000.

At Raritan Valley Community College, 14 employees earn a six-figure salary.

McCormick earns a $525,000 salary, while Rutgers' football coach Greg Schiano pulls in a base salary of $450,000.  Two other university employees earn at least $300,000 a year, according to the most recent data available.  They are Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs Philip Furmanski and business school Dean Michael Cooper.  Senior Vice President Jeffrey Apfel was making $385,840 when he left last year to work at a law firm in Boston.

At Middlesex County College, the highest-paid employee is President Joann La Perla, who takes in $159,071 a year.  La Perla joined the staff in January 2005.

The salary figures released today separate employees by those enrolled in the Alternative Benefits Program and those who are not.  The Alternative Benefits program is a tax-sheltered, defined contribution retirement program for higher education faculty.  It is open to full-time faculty, officers, visiting professors and certain professional administrative staff at public universities and community colleges in the state.

Middlesex has 206 full-time faculty and 346 part-time faculty.  The median salary for full-time employees enrolled in the Alternative Benefits Program is $74,411.  The average is $77,924.

The median salary for Middlesex employees not enrolled in that program is $24,019.  At Raritan Valley, the median salary for non-enrolled employees is $9,533.  At Rutgers, it's $38,076.  Those figures include both full- and part-time faculty.

At Rutgers, the median salary for employees enrolled in the program is $68,000, with an average of $77,762.  At Raritan Valley, the median salary for alternative benefits employees is $55,120, with an average of $62,825.

The highest-paid employee at Raritan Valley is Dean of Students Diane Lemcoe, who makes $115,000 per year, according to the data. University President Kathleen "Casey" Crabill earns a salary of $95,000.  Crabill took over as president in August 2006.
