Unequal Legislature

Martha Burk and Eleanor Smeal have always been champions for women’s rights.  Their article on the Equal Rights Amendment highlights the dismal fact that the U.S. lags way behind the rest of the world (68th) in women’s participation in national legislatures.  What is more obscene is that New Jersey is near the bottom of the list when the states are ranked.  New Jersey needs a ballot issue requiring parity for women in the Legislature.  Did we not require something similar for the new Iraqi parliament?  “Quota” is a lot less of a dirty work than “discrimination.”  Are you ready to sign a petition to get this on the Ballot?
