Re “Gay Britons Serve in Military
With Little Fuss, as Predicted Discord Does Not Occur” (news article, May 21):
While Britons are puzzled about why our military continues to discriminate
against gays, the answer is obvious to anyone who pays attention to the opinions
of individuals in positions of power. When Gen. Peter Pace, chairman of
our Joint Chiefs of Staff, for example, announces that homosexuality is
“immoral,” it becomes embarrassingly clear that “don’t ask, don’t tell” is
sustained by a degree of ignorance that is absolutely breathtaking.
That no fewer than 24 countries invite gays to serve in their armed forces
should clearly give General Pace and others like him persuasive reasons to
reconsider their antiquated views.
