The Arkansas Times is reporting that
Tim Griffin, the former White House political aide who received a controversial
appointment as the U.S. attorney for eastern Arkansas, will resign effective
tomorrow.
"Griffin will be pursuing opportunities in the private sector," his office says
in a statement to On Deadline.
Here's an excerpt from his statement on the resignation: "I greatly
appreciate the opportunity to serve in the Department of Justice, especially as
United States Attorney. ... I am proud of what the United States Attorney's
Office (USAO) has accomplished, especially our efforts to provide outreach and
training in rural counties and the USAO's close cooperation with the Federal
Bureau of Investigation in providing federal civil rights law training to law
enforcement and community leaders."
Griffin, a former aide to top GOP political adviser Karl Rove, took office in
December. The Wall Street Journal says he has had discussions with
"allies" of former Sen. Fred Thompson about taking a prominent position in the
Republican's -- unannounced but widely anticipated -- presidential campaign.
