Part Two of Three-Part Seminar Series Exploring GLBT Issues Slated for Feb. 28

The New Jersey State Bar Foundation, along with the New Jersey Division on Civil Rights and the New Jersey State Bar Association’s Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Rights Committee, is cosponsoring three free public seminars relating to gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender rights.  The second seminar, titled, Discrimination Against Sexual Minorities in Employment, Housing & Public Accommodations, will be held on Wednesday, February 28, 2007 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the New Jersey Law Center, One Constitution Square (off Ryders Lane) in New Brunswick.

Tom Prol, who is co-chair of the NJSBA’s Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Rights Committee, will serve as the evening’s moderator.  Prol practices environmental and land use law with the law firm of Scarinci & Hollenbeck in Lyndhurst.

Four panelists will participate in the seminar, including Frank Vespa-Papaleo, director of New Jersey Division on Civil Rights, who will explore tips for employers and employees to prevent GLBT discrimination in the workplace.  Leslie Farber, from the Law Offices of Leslie Farber in Montclair, will discuss transgender rights law in New Jersey.  Edward Barocas, legal director of the American Civil Liberties Union of New Jersey will review cutting-edge GLBT discrimination issues in New Jersey and Steven Goldstein, chair of Garden State Equality, an organization that fights for GLBT rights, will explore how to make progress in New Jersey civil rights law.

The final installment of the seminar series, titled Education Issues and GLBT Law, will be held Thursday, March 22, 2007.

The seminar is free and open to the public, however, advance registration is required.  To register, or for more information on Foundation seminars, programs and publications, visit the Foundation online at www.njsbf.org or call 1-800-FREE-LAW.  You may also call or email Florence Nathan, Director of Special Programs, at 732-937-7518 or fnathan@njsbf.org.  The Foundation's seminar series is made possible by funding from the IOLTA Fund of the Bar of New Jersey.
