Civil Union Service
Free Two Weekends
February 23, 24,& 25
and March 2, 3, & 4
At the Unitarian
Universalist Church at Washington Crossing
Immediately following the historic
date of February 19, 2007 when New Jersey will legalize Same-Sex Civil Unions,
the Unitarian Universalist Church at Washington Crossing is opening their
beautiful sanctuary, and their minister and several licensed wedding officients
will be available to perform same-sex civil unions and heterosexual weddings.
As part of the Unitarian Universalist Church at Washington Crossing’s belief in
the inherent worth and dignity of every person, we are opening our doors and
hearts to ALL couples who would like to join together in a civil union or
heterosexual wedding.
During the two weekends following that date, on February 23, 24 and 25, and
March 2, 3, and 4, this service is being offered free of charge because we
believe in Marriage Equality. Our congregation has been working for years
to make it a law of the state of New Jersey, and we want to support the process
of civil unions that we will be working to make civil marriages in the not too
distant future.
The Unitarian Universalist Church has a long tradition of championing the rights
of Gay, Lesbian, Transgender and Bisexual individuals. Several years ago
our congregation voted unanimously to affirm the right of same gender couples to
be married. Our minister, the Rev. Charles J. Stephens, has been an
outspoken advocate of same-sex weddings, and performing them, for many years.
He has volunteered to perform same-sex wedding ceremonies in New Paltz, NY, as
well as at Bucks County Community College and The College of New Jersey.
If you are interested in having a union/wedding ceremony at the Unitarian
Universalist Church at Washington Crossing during these two weekends, or if you
have questions about civil unions, please contact the church office at
