Grove, Oklahoma -- A gay
teenager claims school officials in Grove failed to provide him with a safe
environment, resulting in an assault by another student.
Eighteen-year-old Michale Bullis of Wyandotte filed a notice of tort claim
against Grove Public Schools and the Grove School Board.
In the claim, Bullis alleges he was injured in an attack by another student
November 8th in the Grove High School cafeteria. According to the claim,
the student said he attacked Bullis because he is gay.
A National Honor Society student, Bullis claims the attack was part of
"systematic harassment and bullying" which resulted in his transfer to the Grove
Alternative School.
Bullis is seeking more than 10-thousand dollars in damages. He is
represented by Miami attorney Erik Johnson.
School officials didn't comment on the claim.
