Titled "The Confession," the
autobiography by former New Jersey Gov. James E. McGreevey will detail his
upbringing, and the personal struggles first publicly revealed in his shocking
"I am a gay American" speech. The memoir also will concentrate on New
Jersey politics.
State Sen. Ray Lesniak, a friend of McGreevey's, confirmed the release date, but
said publisher ReganBooks had asked him not to talk further about the tell-all
before it's released.
"They don't want to drum up too much interest too soon," he said.
Scott Widmeyer, a spokesman for McGreevey, did not return calls for comment
Wednesday.
McGreevey, 48, announced his homosexuality and his impending resignation in the
same speech on Aug. 12, 2004, declaring that he had been involved in an affair
with a man. A Democrat, he was governor from Jan. 15, 2002-Nov. 15, 2004.
ReganBooks is an imprint of HarperCollins.
