Gay Americans have same rights as us

Zansville, Ohio -- I have been reading some of the letters to the editor for the last few weeks and have found myself wondering if anyone understands the U.S. Constitution.
One gentleman suggested that John Kerry was not eligible to run for president because of an amendment concerning treason.
Kerry was never convicted of treason. What he did was exercise his right as an American, and especially as a veteran of the Vietnam War, to address his concerns.
Needless to say, the point made with that letter was mute, but I digress.
My biggest concern are those who seem to be unable to discern what it means to separate church from state.
I am not gay, but have known many who are. The debate is whether or not to amend the Constitution to define marriage as that between a man and a woman?
I'll keep this simple for those who support such nonsense. The United States and its Constitution were created for one purpose only.
Can you say equality? I know you can.
Civil rights is the real issue. Singling any individual or group out and creating a separate set of rules is unconstitutional.
How dare anyone couple the Bible with the Constitution and try to create a weapon of prejudice.
We live in a diverse nation. That means that labels do not apply when it comes to the Constitution.
Anyone who calls themselves a Christian should remember things like tolerance and love.
God will stand in judgment of us -- not a religious fanatic attempting to force a political agenda upon the rest of the nation.
Gay marriage does not warrant altering that sacred document called the Constitution and putting one's own personal slant on it.
It is a document that should only be altered with great caution and deliberation.
The gay population of this country pays taxes the same as you and I. They have as much right to happiness as anyone.
It is no one's right to determine with whom they are allowed to find this happiness.
