John Crowell Campbell                          Senator Max Cleland

I asked Senator Cleland if he remembered Marjorie Quandt, and he said he did so I told him that she had selected me to be the Director of the Medical Administration Service Program just before the election of President Jimmy Carter and that all centralized positions had been frozen pending the out come of the election.  Following the results of the election, President Carter appointed Max Cleland as Administrator of Veteran Affairs.  The country was having so many problems with Vietnam veterans that he wanted veterans from that period to fill the positions, and since I was a veteran of the Korean conflict, I did not receive the appointment.

John Crowell Campbell          Senator Max Cleland

Senator Cleland started to apologize for my not having received the appointment, but I assured him that I was happy with the way things worked out, as I had had no desire to leave New York City, and that I had been quite happy to finish my 31 years federal service with the Position of Chief, Medical Administration Service, at the V.A. Hospital in the Bronx.     John Crowell Campbell
