Planned Parenthood of Central New Jersey’sAnnual MeetingRobert B. Meyner Reception Center, PNC Arts Center Monday, May 17, 2004, 5:30PM to 8:30 PM Holmdel, New Jersey
Last year the GayPASG full page ad in the Annual Meeting Program contained the following:
Sex-Education: Due to our recent focus on Harassment and Bullying within the NJ school system, we have recognized the equally important problem of sex education in the school system. It is appalling that abstinence-only education is depriving students of vital sex education they need for survival. We salute Planned Parenthood for their tireless support for sex education.
We had a fill page ad again this year but did not provide a copy of the following resolution which we would like to share with you:
BOARD OF DIRECTORS RESOLUTION
“The world we envision is one in which people possess and pursue their own dreams. We see a world in which people will be free to make life’s most profound choices about childbearing and relationships in harmony with those dreams.” (Planned Parenthood Vision 2025 Statement)
WHEREAS, Planned Parenthood believes in the fundamental right of each individual, throughout the world, to make his or her own decisions about sexuality, relationships and reproduction, regardless of the individual’s income, marital status, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, age, national origin, or residence.
WHEREAS, We believe that respect and value for diversity in all aspects of our organization are essential to our well-being.
WHEREAS, We further believe that all people, regardless of gender or sexual orientation, have rights that must be respected and responsibilities that must be exercised.
WHEREAS, We advocate an end to inequality and discrimination that are barriers to realization of the right to make private decisions regarding sexuality, relationships and reproduction, we trust individuals to make responsible choices, we support loving families in all of their relationship forms, and we work to ensure that they are strong and secure.
WHEREAS, a constitutional amendment defining marriage as only between a man and a woman would undermine the right to privacy which the Supreme Court has relied on in determining that the Constitution protects individuals’ decisions about marriage, having and raising children, and basic family relationships, and would discriminate against individuals based on their sexual orientation.
THEREFORE, Let it be resolved that Planned Parenthood of Central New Jersey opposes efforts to limit the privacy interest of same sex couples or to limit their civil rights, including the proposed Federal Marriage Amendment to the Constitution of the United States.
Adopted this 14th day of April, 2004 by the Board of Directors
